SUMMER OLYMPIC COUNTRY PARTICIPATION VISUALIZATION POSTER
The brief was simply "learn and teach others about the Summer Olympics." I decided to make an oversized poster with multiple layers of information about the history of the Summer Olympics. The closer the poster is viewed, the more information is gleaned.
At the farthest level, the poster demonstrates how country participation has increased through the years, and that major events happened to cancel the Games in 1916, 1940, and 1944.
Looking more closely, the rainbow of colors denotes the number of Olympiads each country has attended; blue at the bottom for the most, the reds and oranges at the top for the newer attendees.
Circles to the left of each country show how many medals each country earned in each Olympiad, and at the very closest level, a yellow star to the right of a country denotes the host country for that Olympiad.
